Cardboard boxes range from the most boring kind which you trip over and cannot wait to recycle or take to the garage, to a lot fancier pretty decorative boxes beautifying living and work spaces. Once a box is used it can be reused in a different capacity or it can be flattened and its sides devoted to another function altogether. Some such activities could be to cover surfaces during times of remodeling, entertain pets or grandchildren, cover your windshield in the winter, store various items or records etc.

Typically cardboard boxes are made of corrugated fiberboard with wavy flutes inside allowing for extra bending, stacking and strength. Some other technical elements here are edge-crush test and weight index which can often be found on the bottom of any box and designate it designed weight and often purpose. It is generally a good idea to conform to these manufacturer suggestions otherwise a box might not be able to handle its content. Some more specific types of boxes can combine other qualities such as insulation, weather proofing (barrier protection) to some extend and water resistance. These features are important in the food service and hospitality industries and are often in accordance with customer or product compliance specifications.

Cardboard boxes do not always have to be boring or plain. Their large and visible sides allow for unique advertising space with plenty of room to send commercially viable messages and address contact information. In addition, the space can be used to place product specifications, shipping instructions and other relevant notes to targeted audience.

Other uses of cardboard boxes are around the house. While water-resistance can be added, for the most part, cardboard boxes do not handle moisture, even air humidity well. If you place a cardboard box near a beach home of in a humid place, you could see the quality/strength of the box deteriorating over time. All other dry uses are welcome and cardboard boxes offer the unequaled convenience of being heavy duty in combination with high recycling rate meaning they can always be retired from active service in an easy and civilized manner.
